Grill it up!

6 o’clock on any given week day night is one of the best times of Summer. Grilling season is here! It’s takes a whopping 2 minutes after getting out of the car and you can tell someone in your neighborhood is grilling tonight. Whether it’s something planned or a last minute burger, you can’t go wrong if the weather is nice.

Marinated steaks are always at the top of my list to enjoy and I’m not alone. 2,377 other people rated “Kookie’s” marinade the BEST Steak Marinade in Existence! Claiming:
This is a family recipe that has been developed only over the last 5 years. In this short time it’s made me famous in our close circle, but until now I’ve never shared it with anyone.”
Most of the ingredients are already found in your spice cabinets at home. Give it a try here.

At home, we try to use our grill as much as possible for cooking in the Summer. A couple steps away from our patio set and we are ready to eat!

Some of our favorites are teriyaki chicken thighs, fennel and lager oysters, lemon and dill salmon, angus burgers and any kabob you can create. One of the best parts about dinner outdoors is that clean up is a breeze! The weekends bring bigger parties, more people around the BBQ and more mouths to feed – and more memories that last well into the evenings on these warmer nights. Fun on the patio and in your own great outdoors.

We’d love to hear your favorite grilling recipe, and we’d love to be apart of your Summer nights this season with any of our BBQ and Grill covers.

Cheers to Summer!

Halloween on the Patio

When we think of Halloween and outdoors, we think of all the fun trick-or-treaters running from house to house. Why let kids have all the fun?

Celebrating outdoors can be easier than you think. DigsDigs Party Ideas tells us that an outdoor Halloween party can be even more exciting than an indoor one!

Why is that? Because nature around, trees, bushes, ponds and earth become a part of your décor and you can play very well with it. Beautiful trees with yellow leaves
can be a perfect background, and faux ravens on the table and chairs look so real! A table with gloomy trees around looks so mysterious with candles and Jack-o-lanterns on it.
If you are looking for something less traditional, choose a green tablecloth, plants and chairs and combine them with black accessories. Check out some fun ways to decorate this weekend and get inspired …

One of the best ways to stretch your decorations for dual purpose is to use them as night falls to light pathways that will guide guests to tables or even little trick-or-treaters to your front door:

We love the outdoors – no matter what may be lurking out there. Have a safe and spooky weekend.

Interior Designers choose outdoor patio furniture

We have been long time fans of Serralunga’s furniture. Our in-house design team has always strived to create custom looks for outdoor spaces in the style of interior design. We’ve made collections so sophisticated that interior designers are getting a little jealous.

The units have a large amount of exterior glazing allowing plenty of natural light. It’s all about contrast, light and dark, warm combinations flanked by cold materials like plastic and minimal objects.

Linger longer after the sun goes down

We ran across a few tips for designing your outdoor space from Kerrie Kelley, Zillow Digs design expert, that we couldn’t pass up sharing with you.

Zillow_SummerPatio_ALL

“Simplicity and elements of nature are the key to a beautiful outdoor space this season,” says Kerrie Kelly. “Fill your patio with pops of citrus, low-maintenance greenery and soft romantic lighting, but stay far away from trendy patterned fabrics, blah beiges and intricate shabby chic furniture, which are now trends of the past.”

Check out these 6 simple solutions for your backyard that you can do this weekend with a few basic design edits.

Uncover More Time Outdoors

VerandaFirePit_Lifestyle

Increasingly becoming the number one design feature for backyards, fire pits are perfect for finding more time outdoors with family & friends. There’s nothing more relaxing than sitting out on a cool evening, hanging out next to a roaring fire.

Fire pits come in many sizes, shapes and designs and can even specialize in specific types of fuel.
We found this great resource from HGTV that lets you know which one would work best for your outdoor space.

Once you’ve learned all you can handle about fire pits and have made a choice, consider prolonging the life of your fire pit with a fire pit cover by Classic Accessories.

Only 6 more days until the official start of Spring!

From our neck of the woods, it feels like it – that’s for sure. Blue skies, birds chirping, and just a shower away from sitting on the patio in the afternoons. Yep, a Spring Shower away.
After having your BBQ and patio out of mind for months, it only takes a warm afternoon to start thinking of getting the lawn mowed, the planters planted and whatever else is on your to-do list for that space outside your back door. (yeah the one that’s seen winter’s wrath this year!) Just to have peace of mind that your patio is ready for that next get together because heck, THE SNOW IS GONE – let’s celebrate! With patio furniture covers it’s easy, whether it’s in between seasons or in between showers.

Celebrate is right, 6 more days friends… but hey, no one will RSVP “No” if it’s the first 70 degree day of the year following the Winter we’ve had if you decide this weekend is BBQ worthy!

We’re officially in patio season, why not mix it up this year? Below are some fresh ideas from some of our favorite bloggers.

1. Sarah Le from I am Food Blog has a delightful take on a summer picnic salad. This Vietnamese and foodie inspired the salad uses fresh ingredients like: mint, cilantro and lime, and features quinoa, veggies and a little sriracha for spice. Check it out!

2. Kristin Jackson of the Hunted Interior, created a beautiful backyard oasis as part of a HomeDepot.com style challenge. We noticed her work last year when she stenciled her stained deck with a large graphic pattern making it a unique and bold space: here. Take some inspiration from her latest outdoor creation with a simple palette that pops, a creative wall of plates, and a fun bocce court.
