5-Stars

Blue skies and clear waters are calling. Summer temps have hit and while boaters hit their favorite launches, we see anglers heading towards higher elevations. Trying to beat out the warmer waters with sluggish fish, late spring and early summer devotees know they have to adapt if they want to reel in the big one.

We have been getting some really great reviews on our best selling Colorado Pontoon Boats from this year’s seasons so far. Colorado, Colorado XT and Colorado XTS to be exact.

‘drlrhodes’ from Chuckey, TN gives a 5-star review:   “Received my Pontoon boat 3 months ago absolutely love it. Great company to deal with, Back their products very well. Free shipping a plus and 15% off original price being a loyalty member is just another perk. I am asked every time I take it out where I got it. Excellent product!

We love to hear from anglers and we love to see how the boats perform as well.

It never gets old when you see your products out in the “real world” and National Geographic aired one project we are very proud to be apart of last week. While watching National Geographic’s ‘Earth Live’ the other day, they had a live camera mounted on “snot-bots” while researchers where collecting data from whales. Talk about a go-anywhere-pro right?

We were able to partner up with Iain Kerr not so long ago when his project took off. (no pun intended) The CEO of Ocean Alliance has been proving since 1971 that you don’t have to harm whales to learn about whales. So what you may ask does Classic Accessories Pontoon Boats have to do with whale research? Iain and his crew used our Colorado XT to act as “whales” as they tested their snot-bots out. In essence, the snot-bots would hover over the whales and collect the “blow” from the blowholes as they surfaced.

Check out the video below:

They were able to collect stress hormones, toxins and DNA of the whales in a non-intrusive manner. Iain explains, “Most of the ways these hormones are collected actually stresses the animals, the snot bots are a way to collect the data from the whales without them even knowing.

After many successful launches and collations, our Colorado XT Pontoon Boat also acted as a launch pad for the drones so that they didn’t need to fly so far from the research ship to the whale pod. It’s great to know the program is off and running and collecting data on the health of whales.

We would love to see where your Classic Accessories Pontoon Boat takes you this season! Send us photos, tag us online, show us your best catch or share your biggest fishing story.

We hope one of our inflatable pontoon boats or float tubes makes it way into your fishing season this year – from walleyes to whales!

Kayaks in the Snow

It’s the first week of January and it’s been FREEZING. Crystal clear 16 degree mornings have been the norm for awhile here in the South Seattle area. So when two of our designers got the chance to go outside today, they put on hats and gloves and ventured out to Issaquah to Kayak Academy to do some fittings.

The first thing you think of isn’t kayaking when there is left over snow on the ground? No rest for the weary, but more importantly driven, designers Jake Sornsin and Gail Foster. We were lucky to find a kayak shop open at this time of year. As we say, off season is our season and the kind folks at Kayak Adventure let us fit countless kayaks and some canoes with our new covers we have lined up this year. We always are looking to find the perfect fit and this is just one way we do it.

Although Jake’s dog Tiffany gets to stay warm while he maneuvers kayaks off their stacks onto frozen ground:

Above and beyond for these two today. I think an afternoon hot chocolate is in order.

Special thanks to Kayak Adventures for letting us visit you on this freezing winter day! Check them out for lessons and to shop all their gear at www.kayakacademy.com

Labor Day Love

We are celebrating Labor Day early this year, as in today – the Friday before!
Labor Day always brings a bitter-sweet close to a fun and busy Summer filled with memories and new favorite places. It can be the last trip with the boat for the year with lazy sunny afternoons that grow shorter every day.
LaborDayCA_1
Maybe it’s the last trail ride of the season where you take off as far as the sun lets you go.

LaborDayCA_5

This is the last long weekend of the Summer to get that last camp in. The roads will be crazy, but it’s the memories of the time getting there and spent around camp that will go down in your photobooks.

LaborDayCA_3a
Or maybe it’s the last round of golf all the guys can get together for an earlier Tee Time than Twilight. LaborDayCA_4
Maybe instead of ending a season, you are looking forward to game days with the BBQ!

Whether you are ending your favorite season, or looking to forward to it, we wish you
a happy and safe Labor Day filled with new memories and favorite places.

A trip with the Colorado

The Colorado is one of our best selling inflatable pontoon boats we carry. It’s a highly rated 9 foot high-capacity with padded/ folding seat designed to get you on the water and away from the crowd.

We wanted to thank Steve from Bel Air, Maryland for sending us his photos of his latest trip with two Colorados. Here’s what Steve shared with us:

“I had a fantastic trip with my Colorado.  I honestly couldn’t be happier that I purchased it.  It allows me to go places others only wished they could.  It always turns heads and has people always asking “what is that?”. I love that it has such an extreme amount of storage as well.  I can hold everything I need including my lunch on longer outings. Thanks to Classic Accessories I’ll never be in need of another boat. Here are some photos of my recent trip.”

We are sharing the fishing season love with 20% off our pontoon boats with discount code: 20fishing at checkout NOW through May 14th. Start your fly fishing season with 20% off today and get on the water!

The Golden Days of October

So Halloween’s in a week. All tricks aside, we are working on a treat of a Halloween Sale. And if you’re like a lot of us, the spooky decorations are out, candy is filling more and more of your grocery list as the days pass and you’ve got fresh meat in the fridge. Wait, what?

“October is hardly the Grand Beginning. It’s more like the Big Transition, when after three weeks of bowhunting elk in backcountry solitude and wildness, I’m hankering for a change of pace.”

Yep, our friends over at Outdoor Life have written about their favorite parts of game hunting in these glorious 31 days of October here.

The Golden Days of October

A cheers to tailgates

It starts on Thursdays now. Which wasn’t always been the case, but now we get to look forward to Thursday nights, Saturdays, Sundays and Monday nights. Its football season in America and nothing brings bigger fans out hours before kickoff than a good tailgate.

RV_Tailgating     steeplechase-bar03-mld108130_vert

We want to know, do you RV it or go old school with a frosty beverage from your truck’s tailgate? We’ve seen all kinds with all sorts of up-scaled versions of tailgate spreads from bloody-mary bars to chili cook-offs to rival restaurants.
(thanks in most part to Pinterest)

What about snacks. The hot-dogs are showing up with fancier sides each season and now we’re seeing pizza ovens make their way to parking lots near you. Showing up in simple team colors is apparently so 2014 – according to Martha Stewart, because she’s the first one we think of for tailgating too. Thankfully our friends at Gander Mountain have a checklist ready for this weekend’s games.

Heaters

It doesn’t matter where you live, Arizona to Massachusetts, Fall is welcomed with cooler evenings on the patio when we try and enjoy them before a nice crisp night can turn into a FREEZING one. The season’s here for covering patio furniture and deep cleaning our grills for the last time and storing our patio heaters. We found some great tips to getting your patio heater ready for longer storage with Henry Kotara from Patio Heaters 4U.

Starting with removing water marks with a non-abrasive cleaner on your stainless steel heater. Always allowing enough time to air dry.

Water Marks on Steel

Check your LPG gas cylinder for normal wear and tear and its hoses and valves are in good condition. Never store a propane gas cylinder indoors or below ground level.

Do a quick check that all nuts are tightened.

Lastly, always store your patio heater with a cover designed specifically for it’s shape. Check ours out here, just in time for Fall.

Exposing the Elements…

lignin

We’re pretty confident most of us have it, and it’s most likely right outside your door.  We’re talking about your wooden patio furniture! Your tables, chairs, chaises, adirondacks, benches and umbrellas. What the heck is this lignin? Well put on your Chem 101 hats. Lignin is a complex polymer of aromatic alcohols derived from wood, and constitutes 30% of non-fossil organic carbon and a quarter to a third of the dry mass of wood.  Sooo, it’s a big make up of your wooden furniture right outside your door.

Being in the protecting business, we’re taking a closer look at the effects our beloved sun’s UV rays  have on wood (lignin in the wood to be technical here).  The lignin in our wooden furniture absorbs UV and causes discoloration and structural weakness.  Studies have shown that discoloration and structural weakness is noticeable after only 250 hours of UV exposure, or roughly 31 sunny days! Yes, that can even happen here in the Great NorthWet Northwest.

Real world example: Fig 1.

Fig1_Lignin_BP
Ever seen this happen to your favorite table? Lignin is photo-degraded by light (especially UV light) quicker than the other cell wall polymers. This decreases its water resistance, and can result in the buildup of yellowish to brown color. The effects of the degradation by light in the visible wavelengths usually follows, which causes lignin to become greyish or bleached in appearance over time.

Stained Wood – Light Damage:

Fig2_Lignin_BP
Figure 2. The 10 year test results of the National Park Service’s Wood Stain Durability Test are shown above. The upper half of the test board was exposed in a window  to north light. The bottom was covered during the test period. Comparison of the corresponding exposed and unexposed areas reveals the extreme susceptibility of certain commonly used wood stains to damage by light. **

“The aniline dyes (what gives the wood stain it’s color) proved to be extremely light sensitive with noticeable fading even on a year to year basis.” – National Park Service

Fig3_Lignin_BP

The weathered look has its place, just not where you want to sit down and relax, or to serve your favorite BBQ dish on. When painted wood is exposed to UV for years, you’ll find cracking and flaking over time. Fig 4

Fig4_Lignin_BP

So how can our covers help?

  1. All of Classic’s woven covers possess UV protection factors greater than 50, which is rated ‘excellent’   Fig 5.

    Fig5_Lignin_BP

  2. All of our woven patio furniture covers  block at least 99.93% of all UV radiation due to their special backing.
  3. Choose a model with a UV protective-coating for longer lasting protection.
  4. Save money and convenience
  5. Check out how to properly store your patio furniture whether it be between seasons, showers, or weekends.

Protection like this has never been easier!
